SAAS is a legally registered, not-for-profit corporation. SAAS provides accreditation services, for a fee, to organizations currently accredited or wishing to be accredited by SAAS to conduct social standard certifications that fall within SAAS’s scope of activity. SAAS a legally recognized tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of the United States, Organizations described in section 501(c)(3) are commonly referred to as charitable organizations and are eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. Such organizations file a Form 990, which is an annual reporting return that certain federally tax-exempt organizations must file with the IRS. This report provides information on the filing organization's mission, programs, and finances. SAAS makes its Form 990 publicly available.
The fees paid by accredited and applicant certification bodies cover the operation and administration of the accreditation oversight of the Certification Bodies. SAAS is also hired by standard-setting and other organizations seeking SAAS expertise in developing and implementing accreditation, quality assurance, or verification systems.
